I. OBJECTIVES

1) Deliver value to ASTDPS members through professional development and connecting them with other training professionals.

2) Add value to membership in the ASTD Puget Sound Chapter.

3) Recruit new chapter members.

4) Involve experienced training practitioners in chapter programs - training them with their peers.

5) Recruit new experienced practitioners.

6) General publicity for the profession.

7) Raise net funds for other chapter programs.

8) Opportunity to strategically partner with another organization.

9) Demonstrate Leadership in initiating a new chapter program.

II. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

This program is modeled loosely on the program that is currently being run by the Cascadia ASTD Chapter in Portland.

This is a training program consisting of 4 three-hour elements:

1) Needs Assessment
2) Course Design
3) Training Methodologies
4) Presentation Skills - face-to-face, or web-conference

Each element is offered by a team of two experienced training practitioners. The content is chosen by them. We can suggest methodologies we'd like to see in the delivery, including a pre-course assignment, use of multimedia, a suggested type of handout, enrichment or bibliography for further study, a test or demonstration, a Kirkpatrick level-3 follow-up.

Each participant receives a binder for materials they receive or develop from their research into the element.

Enrollment: people may enroll in any one, several, or all of the elements.

Enrollment process: to be worked-out. Fees: $40 member/$45 non-

Scheduling: Probably February-March. The elements can be run in the daytime Morning-Afternoon-Morning-Afternoon in 2 days, or in 4 evening sessions on a once-per-week schedule.

Location: Cascadia's are scheduled into facilities at Portland State University in Portland, however any facility that can accommodate 20-25 attendees and supporting the required AV, etc. would do.

Presenter selection process - to be determined. The presenters can be chosen using a variety of factors: experience, educational credentials, long-term participation in our ASTD chapter, agreeability to partnering with another specialist in their field, achieving a balance of for-profit, non-profit, public (government) experience, etc.

Budget: Our objective is to offer a good value for a modest enrollment fee.

III. COMMUNICATIONS

We can discuss the optimal lead-time required to announce and promote this program properly. A 2-3 month lead time from finalizing the program details is probably required to announce the program to our members, and promote it to non-members.

Suggested communication elements:
- press release
- feature stories/bios on the presenters to pitch to local business press
- co-promotion with another HR/HPI organization
- co-promotion with another training organization, i.e. NPower
- co-promotion with a community college
- e-mails to our membership
- listing in monthly newsletters - two months prior
- other
