People judge an event on a host of factors, but one very important
one is whether anyone remembers it. It seems obvious, doesn't it?
Your event has amazing competition for the mind of the attendee: the
film and video they watched just before, the computer games they played
the next day or concert they attended the next night. Each of these
provides vivid, exciting memory links which may dwarf the memory of
your "Big Event".
From the viewpoint of your audience, good event photography makes
a world of difference:
Creates a vivid, visual image of me at the event.
I can show it to others at the event.
I can take a print with me to show to others later.
Done right, it links me powerfully with the event theme or key
message.
It may link me with others who attended.
It's something I am proud to show others later.
I may e-mail a digital image to friends, associates
It may be posted on a gallery site to which I can point other
team members
It may be shown to re-cap the event in later meetings
Each time I see it I re-visit the memory, feel the pride, fun
Great Photograpy Requires Great Planning:
We like to start with the key messages of the event - friendship,
fellowship, achievement, connection, fun, pride, etc. Then we work
in the event theme. Sometimes the location provides the backdrop,
other times a backdrop needs to be created.
Example Event Photos:
Western Theme
Beach/Surf Theme
Mardi Gras Theme
